Jouer Essential High Coverage Créme Foundation – Love it Or Hate It?

A while ago, Jouer Cosmetics came out with their Essential High Coverage Créme Foundation. Jouer is a brand I love. Everything I’ve purchased from them in the past have been products I’ve enjoyed and fell in love with. When I heard they were releasing a foundation, especially a full coverage matte foundation, I knew I wanted to try it at some point.

I’m no foundation junkie. I usually find a foundation I love and pretty much stick to it. I don’t have a huge foundation collection by any means. However, I do like to try different foundations if they peak my interest. For a few years I was really into the dewy glowy foundations. In the last year or so, I’m more into matte finishes. Always full coverage! I have slight redness on my cheeks and I’ve always been someone that prefers full coverage to cover that up and give a flawless look. Just my personal preference when it comes to foundations & something I look for.

What this is – (Retails at $38) A lightweight, long wearing, supreme coverage foundation. It buffs into the skin leaving an airbrushed finish. Hyaluronic acid and botanical extracts maintain a healthy moisture balance while the natural-matte formula keeps unwanted shine at bay.

I’ll be honest… my first impression of this foundation was not good. So, because this foundation is so full coverage, you really don’t need to use much at all. I knew that going in. I used a pump (like I do with my Fenty foundation) the first time I tried this and for me, that was too much. I tried blending it in and in my opinion it just looked… heavy?(looked heavy, didn’t feel heavy on) I don’t know how to describe it. It also, as I wore it for about an hour or so, pulled weird dry patches on my cheeks and nose that weren’t there before. It gave my skin a textured look in certain areas and just looked bad.

For reference I used my Tatcha primer, applied it with my Moda oval brush, and used my Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. All the things I use when I apply my Fenty foundation (which is my absolute favorite foundation currently)

I decided to keep working with the foundation. I didn’t just pay $38 for nothing! The next couple of times I applied it, I used very little! Half a pump maybe to cover my entire face. I did notice, for me at least, I can’t speak for anyone else… but the half a pump worked better for me. It didn’t give it that heavy look I had the first time. As the day wore on, I didn’t really notice any weird dry patches that I noticed the first time around. To be honest, the more I kept wearing this foundation it seemed to improve (looks wise) I will say I did lightly set it with a setting powder, just in those weird spots that looked off that first time.

My final thoughts on this product : I like. Do I love it? Eh, I don’t love it like I love my Fenty foundation, but I like this foundation. It was trial and error… I’d say, for me using this foundation. The first time I used it, I was not impressed at all. I hated it, actually. The more I worked with it and tried different ways at applying it (I like it more using my beautyblender instead of a brush) I felt it worked much better for me.

I am glad I played around with it a bit instead of going off of my initial first impression. Definitely keep in mind, a little goes a long way! For me, even less than what’s recommended to cover my face.

What I love about this foundation is: It is very full coverage, it feels lightweight, not heavy, and it’s long lasting.

The cons for me would be: I had to work a little to figure out how to apply it the way that was suited for me, I guess? With other foundations I don’t need to play around much or put in much work.

All in all, I do like it. I don’t know if I’d repurchase, but I like it enough to keep wearing it and not banishing it to a dark drawer never to be seen again lol. We’re all different and what works for some, might not work for others. This was just my experience and my thoughts. I’d love to know if you’ve tried this? How did it work for you? Did you love it or hate? Let me know!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hey Jenn, thanks for giving us some insight into this product 👌👍. I’ve been seeing it around on IG and I’ve been curious about it. Sounds like it’s not too bad but I don’t like having to work or find ways to make my foundation work lol. I think I’ll just pass on this one. What I do want to try is their beautiful blush duos, those look like they would apply beautifully on the skin. 😘💕💕

    • I agree! I like it enough, but it’s too much work for me to like it.. I know some really love this foundation! Swear by it, but for me… it’s just okay. I don’t think I’d repurchase it. Yes!!! The blush duos are next on my list to try! They look so beautiful 😍😍😍 Thank you so much for reading, love!! 😘😘💕💜💕

  2. Loved your review! I’ve seen a lot of people talking about this foundation. I have never tried anything from Jouer, they’re online only right? And I just find online-only retailers so hard to get on board with. Except colourpop. Cause they’re cheap lol

    • Thanks so much! Yeah, I believe they’re just online as of right now. I know what you mean, it’s hard with online only retailers. I do love Jouer, but this foundation is too much work for me to enjoy it! Such a bummer! Colourpop is great!! Lol
